Public Health Activities and Services
The
purpose of the public health activities and services workgroup
is to identify and count what
public health does and how much of it is done across all 35 local
health agencies and the Department of Health in Washington State
each year. This
provides important information on how to measure
the public health
system effectiveness.
The Public Health
Improvement Partnership was charged by the 2007 legislature to identify
and develop a way to count public health activities consistently and
over time. Two years later, a summary report was produced, capturing a
sample of public health activities and services provided across the
state presenting baseline data of how many of these activities and
services were done in 2008. The following year the survey tripled in
size with many new items added to the list of activities and services
conducted by the local health agencies and by the state department of
health. The data is used widely to describe our public health work with
examples in toolkits below.
The Public Health Activities and Services Inventory is now conducted on
an annual basis. Each year the data is collected from across all 35
local public health programs across the state and the state Department
of Health.
