Water Recreation Facility Construction Permit

For new construction or modification of an existing Water Recreation Facility for the public (swimming pool, spa, wading pool, spray feature, water park, or water feature), you will need to obtain a permit. Who you get the permit application from depends upon which county the construction is occurring.

Note: This permit is not for single-family residential home pools. Contact your county or city building department to see what you need for building a pool at your home.

Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish, or Spokane County

For facilities in Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish, or Spokane County, you need to contact and get a permit application from their local health department.

All Other Counties

For all other Water Recreation Facilities outside the counties listed above, follow the instructions below. Make sure to include all three parts.

Note on Time Sensitive Projects: Reviewing a complete application package for new construction or modification of an existing Water Recreation Facility or Recreational Water Contact Facility may take up to 30 days or longer. Please submit applications well in advance of your construction date.

Note on Innovative and Unconventional Projects: If you plan to construct a Water Park or Water Feature, schedule a pre-design meeting with our Water Recreation staff before you develop your detailed plan.
