The 988 Crisis & Suicide Line: A Resource for Health Care Workers

Many people experience suicidal crisis or mental health-related distress without the support and care they need. The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline helps thousands of people in emotional crisis every day.
Attend this webinar to learn how to support and connect your patient & health care worker community to Washington’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This presentation offers an overview of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: the history, training of counselors, line availability, how to access the line, what happens when someone contacts 988, and resources to share with your communities. The 988 Lifeline helps anyone in emotional crisis and features specialized lines for Veterans, Spanish speakers and other languages, LGBTQIA+ youth, and a Native and Strong lifeline.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize your role within the 988-crisis line.
- Understand how to integrate 988 Lifeline resources into your practice and community.
- Explain the 988 Lifeline and available resources with staff as well as the populations you serve.
- Differentiate between uses of the 988 Lifeline resources versus other 3- digit resource numbers (211, 911).
Elizabeth Emmett, Community Engagement Coordinator for the department’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Line program, will be the presenter for the event. The webinar will be recorded and there will be live ASL interpretation. Continuing education credit for nurses and medical assistants is available.

There is no charge for continuing education credit.Continuing education (CE) is available for pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, nurses (RN, LPN, ARNP), and medical assistants who attend live or watch the recording.
After watching the recording, please complete the evaluation survey. The survey must be completed to earn CE credit.
When attending live or watching the recording as a group, everyone must register for the webinar and complete the evaluation as an individual prior to receiving credit.
Around October 9, we will email certificates to those who have watched the recording and completed the evaluation survey. On April 23, we processed the first batch of CE credits. If you completed the evaluation before this time and have not received your CE, please contact us at powerofproviders@doh.wa.gov. We will process any CE requests after this date on or before the deadline of July 9, 2025. If you require your CE before this time, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
This knowledge-based activity was approved by the Washington State Pharmacy Association for 1.0 contact hours.

Dr. Kira Mauseth is a Practicing clinical psychologist and teaching professor at Seattle University. She serves in the adult mental health clinical seat on Washington State’s Disaster Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC).
Owns Astrum Health, LLC, and consults with organizations and educational groups about local disaster preparedness and resilience building.
