KNOW Special Requirements

Washington State Department of Health developed a model curriculum for HIV/AIDS education. It is called Know HIV Prevention Education for Health Care Facility Employees. This curriculum is intended for educators teaching classes for health professions licensure.

The course covers specific topics which are required by law. Licensing boards have individual requirements with regards to the specific topics. Different licensing boards may have different topic selections.

Special Requirements

Professions & Facilities - Licensed, Certified or Registered - Washington Department of Health

Department of Licensing - Web information on licensing requirements for various professions and occupations.

Health Care facility employees - must receive HIV education, but topics, not hours, are specified. A minimum of 2-3 hours would be necessary to address topics 1, 2, 5 and 6 on the Outline.

Funeral Directors - are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Licensing, not Department of Health. Call 360-586-4905 for more information.

Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery (DBHR) - Chemical Dependency counselors are required to have additional, specialized training.

Washington State Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS) - Adult Family Home Providers are covered by DSHS.
