Water Recreation Facility Construction Permits
Pool facility construction permit for new or revised construction of public swimming pools, wading pools, spas, spray features, and water park features.
Float tank facility construction permit for new or revised construction of floatation systems (also known as float centers, isolation tanks, and sensory deprivation tanks).
Rules and Guidelines
Washington State rules on construction and maintenance of regulated recreational water facilities such as swimming pools, spas, water parks, and wading pools. Regulated facilities include pools at athletic or private clubs, municipal or park facilities, hotels, motels, apartments, condominiums, mobile home parks, RV parks, and homeowner association communities.
See our guidelines to help you comply with state rules and federal law. Guidance documents to help you comply with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGBA) include what you need to know about the federal law, selecting a new drain cover, single main drains, determining when plan review is required, and more.
VGBA Drain Cover Compliance Verification Forms
The VGBA Drain Cover Compliance Verification Forms were created to aid pool owners, designers, and builders in ensuring compliance with ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017. We recommend completing these forms and maintaining on-site during replacements and for new construction projects. Contact your local health inspector to determine the appropriate form and submittal agency for your drain cover replacement.
