Osteopathic Physician and Surgeon - Rules in Progress

Rules in Progress

The rules writing process is open to the public. The public is welcome to take part in helping us write rules. Rules are also known as regulations, Washington Administrative Code, or WAC. The rule-making process includes public notices and workshops, and usually a public hearing before a rule becomes final.

Office-Based Sedation Rules

The Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery filed a CR102 as WSR #22-21-129 (PDF) on October 18, 2022, to consider rule amendments in response to a rule petition requesting changes to the definition of the term "minimal sedation." The board made additional changes to ensure the entire rule is current and aligns with best practices.

Exclusions Rules

The Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery filed a CR101 as WSR 22-17-142 (PDF) on August 23, 2022, to consider rule amendments to expand the types of patients who are exempt from certain provisions of rule when being prescribed opioid drugs. The board will consider the Washington Medical Commission's recently adopted rules to ensure consistency and alignment with best practices.
