License Renewals

Renewals Online

Nearly all health professionals and facilities whose credentials are within 90 days of their expiration date may renew their licenses, registrations, or certifications online. Check the Provider Credential or Facility Search for your current status.

There is a 2.5% convenience fee to renew online with a credit card, but there is no fee for ACH (electronic check) payments. If you choose to renew online, you don't need to mail your renewal notice to the department.

You won't be able to renew online if:

  • You're currently in any other status, such as military, inactive, or retired.
  • You currently have an active license with restrictions, probation, or conditions.
  • You want to change your status.

Getting Started

Step 1: Is your contact information current?

If your contact information isn't current in our system, we recommend you use your HELMS user portal to complete and submit a change of information request or use the contact information change form before renewing online. We mail renewed credentials to the address on file at the time of renewal. The U.S. Postal Service won't forward Department of Health mail. A valid email address is mandatory.

Contact us to verify the address change has been processed before completing your online renewal.

Step 2: Has your name changed recently?

Before renewing online, we recommend submitting any name change requests to our office at least two weeks before renewing online. Name change requests require a copy of your certified marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order. The request must be submitted through your HELMS user account, or by mail, email, or fax to the customer service office.

Step 3: There are two login steps in order to renew online: 1. Login to Secure Access Washington (SAW). 2. Add the Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS) service and confirm your personal information.
Instructions for new users are available, or you may start creating an account and renew online. You'll need the Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS) service to access your user portal and online licensing system.
