The Department of Health investigates complaints of transient accommodations concerning:
- Health and safety conditions (physical environment, services).
- Unlicensed facility.
When we receive a complaint and determine an investigation is needed, we conduct an unannounced investigation of the facility. The investigation findings are reviewed and we determine what action to take.
We may take action such as: close the case, continue the investigation, issue a compliance plan, or take legal action such as issuing a fine, revoking the license, or closing the facility.
We may conduct follow-up inspections to verify corrections have been made or that the facility has closed.
Coordination – Often the Department of Health works with other agencies that also have jurisdiction. When appropriate, we will jointly investigate a site with other agencies including:
- Law enforcement.
- Local health department/district.
- Local zoning/code enforcement.
