Vouchers for NREMT initial cognitive certification examination
Update October 2025: We currently have a limited number of EMT vouchers and will prioritize distribution based on need.
National Registry initial cognitive exams for rural EMS providers in Washington State is a program designed to reduce exam costs for initial certification for students testing at the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) levels.
Students must have an affiliation agency in a rural area. The vouchers are distributed on a first come – first served basis with consideration given to availability of other financial resources, volunteer status, and requests per agency.
If your agency has any interested EMR, EMT, or AEMT students, please fill out the application found in the “Documents” section below and return the completed application to our EMS office three weeks prior to course completion.
The voucher program is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program. Voucher availability is contingent on available funding.
