Nursing Assistant Credentialing Backlog

The Department of Health has been granted approval for additional, temporary employees to assist with the peak of the nursing assistant application workload. We are completing the hiring process, and we expect new credentialing specialists will start soon. This will result in more timely processing of pending applications to avoid work and care disruptions for nursing assistants.

Please remember, that the federal nursing assistant 120-day requirement will continue to be required. Students are allowed to work in nursing homes for up to four months (120 days) before getting certified. Students must apply within three days of their hire date. The 120 days will start on the date of hire.

Nursing assistants are encouraged to submit their application online for faster processing. The Department of Health asks that only one application is submitted per credential; duplicate applications that include paper and online submissions can cause a delay in processing.
