Department of Health and Department of Social and Health Services are testing a new pilot program to make buying fruits and vegetables even easier for people who use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in Washington. Shoppers who use SNAP benefits to buy allowable fruits and vegetables from participating pilot retailers can get up to $50 per month put back onto their SNAP EBT card.
The pilot is available through participating retailers only. Additional retailers may be added as the pilot program continues. Our website will stay current to show you where you can find participating retailers.
What is SNAP Produce Rewards?
Previous versions of the programs, (SNAP Produce Match at grocery stores) and (SNAP Market Match at farmers markets), have used coupons and paper currency.
During the pilot, when you buy eligible fruits and vegetables from participating retailers, SNAP Produce Rewards will be put back onto your SNAP EBT card instantly. Once the money is put back on your SNAP EBT card, you can spend it like normal SNAP benefits at any SNAP retailer. You can get up to $50 per month put back onto your SNAP EBT card.
SNAP Produce Rewards is available to customers who are actively receiving SNAP benefits. Customers who stop receiving SNAP benefits can keep using SNAP Produce Rewards for 90 days.
Here's How it Works
Use your SNAP benefits at participating farmers markets, farm stands, or grocery stores to buy fruits and vegetables. If your purchases are eligible, SNAP Produce Rewards will be automatically added back to your SNAP EBT card. Once the money is put back on your SNAP EBT card, you can spend it like normal SNAP benefits at any SNAP retailer. Your receipt will show that you’ve received your SNAP Produce Reward.
Shop for fresh, frozen, and canned fruits and vegetables with no added salt, sugar, or fat.
Swipe your SNAP EBT card to buy allowable fruits and vegetables.
Earn one dollar in SNAP Produce Rewards for every dollar spent on fruits and vegetables. Earn up to $50 per month. Rewards instantly go on your SNAP EBT card to spend like normal benefits at any SNAP retailer. Check your receipt to see your earnings.

- How do I know how much SNAP Produce Rewards I have this month?
-
Check how much SNAP Produce Rewards you have already used for the month by:
- If you have earned SNAP Produce Rewards, you can call the number on the back of your EBT card and request a balance inquiry. The recording will tell you how much SNAP Produce Rewards you have received month to date.
- The online cardholder portal and the ebtEDGE app will show you how much SNAP Produce Rewards you have received month to date. (Note: that any third party apps used to look at EBT balances will not show information about the incentives, however the SNAP overall balance will include any incentive that has been received),
- Checking your receipt after a SNAP Produce Rewards eligible purchase to see “MTD (month to date) SNAP Produce Rewards Earned”. Then, subtract the MTD SNAP Produce Rewards Earned from $50 to find out how much SNAP Produce Rewards you can still use for that month.
You can still use up to $50 in SNAP Produce Rewards each month, even if you receive less than that amount in SNAP. Just make sure you have SNAP benefits left on your EBT card so you can make your purchase. It is important to remember that the amount of SNAP Produce Rewards you have received is added into your overall SNAP balance. The month-to-date information is helpful for you to know how much more bonus you can receive this month, but it is not a separate amount on top of your SNAP balance that you can use.
- How often do I get SNAP Produce Rewards?
-
SNAP Produce Rewards restarts at the first of each month, regardless of when you get your SNAP benefits. SNAP Produce Rewards is available to customers who are actively receiving SNAP benefits. Customers who stop receiving SNAP benefits can keep using SNAP Produce Rewards for 90 days.
If you have SNAP benefits left on your SNAP EBT card on the first of the month, you can start using your SNAP Produce Rewards for the month right away. If your SNAP balance is zero, you will not be able to use SNAP Produce Rewards until your SNAP benefits reset.
- How can I spend my SNAP Produce Rewards?
-
You can spend your SNAP Produce Rewards at any SNAP retailer on SNAP eligible items. Your SNAP Produce Rewards may be used to purchase any SNAP eligible items, and will automatically be applied to future purchases.
