Rules Workshops
The Department of Health (department) is considering rule amendments to several sections of medical assistant rules to update credentialing requirements and ensure that the rules are current and align with best practices. The department will also consider adding a new section to address medication administration requirements for the medical assistant-registered credential.
The medical assistant program filed a CR-101 with the Office of the Code Reviser on October 3, 2023, as WSR #23-20-118 (PDF). Since the original filing, Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5983 (PDF) passed during the 2024 legislative session. The bill lowered the supervision level required for MA-Cs and MA-Rs to provide treatment for known or suspected syphilis infections from “immediate or direct visual” supervision to “telemedicine” supervision. Because some of the medical assistant rule sections that were already open for the current project need additional amendments to align with this bill, the department withdrew the original CR-101 (PDF) and filed a new one. The new CR-101, WSR #24-14-096 (PDF), incorporates proposed rule amendments for both projects and was filed with the Office of the Code Reviser on July 1, 2024.
