Guideline for Use of Product Compliant Logos

The official chapter 246-70 WAC compliant logos can only be used on cannabis products that meet all the requirements in those rules and the rules of the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB). This includes requirements for testing by a third-party testing lab certified by the WSLCB under WAC 314-55-102.

The logo may not be used on any object or merchandise other than a compliant cannabis product. The use of these logos on products that don't meet the requirements is a violation of the rules and may result in action against the licensee.

Logo requirements
  • The logo can be no smaller than 1/2 inch round.
  • The logo may only be printed in black or blue.
  • The logo must be readily visible by the consumer.
Packaging requirements
  • The product packaging label must prominently display the following statement: "This product is not approved by the FDA to treat, cure, or prevent any disease."
  • Packaging for all products utilizing a chapter 246-70 WAC compliant logo must NOT:
    • Use any word(s), symbol, or image commonly used in or by medical or pharmaceutical professions including, but not limited to depiction of a caduceus, staff of Asclepius, bowl of Hygieia, or mortar and pestle.
    • Use of the word "prescription" or letters "RX."
    • State or imply any specific medical or therapeutic benefit.
    • Mimic a brand of over-the-counter or legend drug.

Three types of Chapter 246-70 WAC compliant products

To be classified as a compliant cannabis product, the product must meet all listed requirements in one of the following classifications:

General use products

A general use product is any cannabis product allowed by the WSLCB, including edibles, flowers and concentrates.

Packaged servings for cannabis-infused products

Cannabis-infused products under this category:

  • May be packaged in servings or applications that contain up to 10 mg of active THC.
  • A unit must not contain more than 10 servings or applications and must not exceed 100 mg total of active THC.
Who can purchase
  • Adults age 21 or older. Purchase subject to sales tax.
  • Qualifying patients age 18 and over or designated providers who are entered into the medical cannabis authorization database and hold a valid medical cannabis recognition card. Sales tax-free purchase.
Who can sell this product
  • Any licensed cannabis store.
Logo

General use compliant products must be labeled "Chapter 246-70 WAC, Compliant - General Use" and must use this logo developed and approved by the Department of Health to indicate compliance with this chapter.

High CBD products

High CBD products are any cannabis product allowed by the WSLCB, including edibles - except cannabis intended for smoking.

Packaged servings
  • Concentrates containing not more than 2 percent THC concentration and at least 25 times more CBD concentration by weight.
  • Cannabis-infused edible products that contain no more than 2 mg of active THC and at least five times more CBD per serving by weight for solids or volume for liquids.
  • Cannabis-infused topical products containing at least five times more CBD concentration than THC concentration.
Who can purchase
  • Adults age 21 or older. Sales tax-free purchase.
  • Qualifying patients age 18 and over or designated providers who are entered into the medical cannabis authorization database and hold a valid medical cannabis recognition card. Sales tax-free purchase.
Who can sell this product
  • Any licensed cannabis store.
Logo

High CBD compliant products must be labeled "Chapter 246-70 WAC Compliant - High CBD" and must use this logo developed and approved by the Department of Health to indicate compliance with this chapter.

High THC products

High THC products are cannabis products containing more than 10 mg but not more than 50 mg of active THC per serving or application. Only the following types of cannabis products qualify for High THC classification: capsules, tablets, tinctures, transdermal patches, and suppositories.

Packaged servings
  • High THC compliant products may be packaged in servings or applications containing up to 50 mg of active THC.
  • A unit must not contain more than 10 servings or applications and must not exceed 500 mg total of active THC.
Who can purchase
  • Only qualifying patients age 18 and over or designated providers who are entered into the medical cannabis authorization database and hold a valid medical cannabis recognition card. Sales tax-free purchase.
Who can sell this product
Logo

High THC compliant products must be labeled "Chapter 246-70 WAC Compliant - High THC" and must use this logo developed and approved by the Department of Health to indicate compliance with this chapter.
