Secure Access Washington (SAW)
Login Instructions for New Users
Follow each step to ensure your online renewal is completed successfully.
Step 1: Get started here.
Step 2: Select “Sign Up!”
Step 3: Enter your personal information, create a password, and select “I'm not a robot.” Complete the verification code, select “Verify,” then select the “Submit” button
Note: Your SAW user ID and account information will be your HELMS ID moving forward. The only way to access HELMS is through SAW. Be sure to create a password that meets the specific parameters required by SAW (i.e., must be at least 10 characters; must contain at least three of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numerals and special characters; doesn't contain your user ID, doesn't contain your full name).
Step 4: Check your email account to activate your new SAW account.
Step 5: To activate your account, please click:
Step 6: Enter the user ID and password you just created. Select "Submit."
Step 7: After logging in, select "Add a New Service."
Step 8: Select the "I would like to Add by Agency" and choose "Department of Health" from the list.
Step 9: Select "Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS)" from the list and choose "Add". You'll see the "Registration Complete" page.
Step 10: Select “My Services” and then the “Health Professional and facility Licensing (HELMS)" link.
Step 11: Select "Continue to Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS)"
Step 12: You'll be routed to the Department of Health's Health Enforcement and Licensing Management System (HELMS). Use your last name, birth date, social security number, and credential number to easily locate your licensing information, if you are already licensed in the State of Washington. If this is your first time applying, please complete all required information.
