TB Services and Standards Manual

This manual describes policies, protocols and recommendations for the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in Washington State. It was written primarily for the Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs) and Tribal Public Health Partners of Washington State as a reference guide on TB diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

While this manual is comprehensive and covers both routine and complex issues, it cannot and should not be substituted for the best judgment of individual providers in specific clinical situations. Those who use this manual are strongly encouraged to seek expert consultation when needed, particularly in special situations, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis.

You can reach WA State TB Program medical and nursing consultants at TBServices@doh.wa.gov, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Acknowledgements: In addition to the multiple resources and references in the TB Services and Standards Manual chapters, the Washington State TB Program would like to thank the Curry International TB Center and the Alaska State TB Program; this manual was adapted from these two resources. The TB Program Team was involved in the initial writing and editing of this manual between 2021 and 2023.

Please note: To view the latest version of the manual, we recommend accessing the chapters online rather than downloading a copy.
