Public health officials in Washington and Montana are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Bovismorbificans linked to broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC of Idaho.
As of September 2, 2026, 13 people in Washington have become ill, with illness onset dates ranging from July 7 to August 18. Of the 12 people interviewed, eight reported eating sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC. Seven ate broccoli sprouts; the variety eaten by the eighth person is unknown. The sprouts were purchased from grocery stores, food co-ops and restaurants. There are three additional people infected with the same strain of Salmonella, 2 from Montana and 1 from Idaho.
Sprouts samples from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts and other suppliers are currently undergoing testing at the Washington State Public Health Laboratory.
This Salmonella outbreak appears unrelated to the recent multistate Salmonella and E. coli outbreak traced to alfalfa sprouts produced by Everything Sprouts, LLC in Minnesota.

About Salmonella
Salmonellosis is a bacterial infection that is often spread through the fecal-oral route, through contaminated food and water, or through contact with animals and their environments. Symptoms of salmonellosis include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fever, chills, and abdominal cramping. Illness typically lasts several days, and people can spread infection to others even after symptoms resolve.
How to Prevent Salmonella Infection
- Wash hands with soap and water after going to the bathroom, changing diapers, touching animals, and before eating or preparing food.
- Cook all meats thoroughly, especially poultry.
- Wash cutting boards and counters used for meat or poultry preparation immediately after use to avoid cross contaminating other foods.

Advice to Consumers
Do not eat any Broccoli Sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them.
Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the sprouts using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
Contact your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F.
- Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving.
- Bloody diarrhea.
- So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down.
- Signs of dehydration, such as:
- Not peeing much.
- Dry mouth and throat.
- Feeling dizzy when standing up.

- Do not sell or serve sprouts Broccoli Sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC.
- Wash and sanitize items and surfaces that may have come in contact with broccoli sprouts.
