WA HEALTH Data Description

Data collection began in mid-2020, with the critical need to monitor key hospital resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data on hospital bed capacity and hospital respiratory data is typically received within 24 hours. Records are updated daily, with continuous quality review and facility outreach. While most records are considered complete within 3 days, some data quality processes can take longer.

WA HEALTH Variables and Definitions

To ensure a unified understanding across all user groups, we developed a data dictionary (XLSX). This comprehensive resource provides the dataset description, standardized variable definitions, and analytical recommendations to support consistent interaction with WA HEALTH data.

For additional information about the facility types required to report information about COVID-19, flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and hospital bed capacity to CDC’s NHSN, facility types and the data collected, see the NHSN Hospital Respiratory Data (HRD) Reporting (PDF). The NHSN standards inform our collection processes and ensure our local data aligns with broader national public health reporting frameworks.

WA HEALTH User Guide

WA HEALTH Administrative User Guide

Our WA HEALTH Administrator User Guide (PDF) lets facilities set-up and monitor who you want to access WA HEALTH. It also helps the administrator set up or update ICU bed types and manage all the facilities under your parent organization.
