Rules Workshops
The medical assistant program filed a CR-101 with the Office of the Code Reviser on April 13, 2026. The WSR# is 26-09-062.
The Department of Health (department) is considering amendments to several sections of medical assistant rules to clarify credentialing requirements regarding providing proof of high school education or its equivalent. Additionally, the department will consider technical amendments to align chapter 246-827 WAC with the recent implementation of the Medical Assistant-EMT profession established under Substitute Senate Bill 5940 (chapter 217, Laws of 2024) (PDF), codified in chapter 18.360 RCW. The purpose of these amendments is to ensure that the rules are current to align with statute and best practices, and to ensure consistency and accuracy throughout the chapter.
In response to the filing, the Department will conduct an open public rules workshop on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am via Zoom. This is the first workshop for this rulemaking project, and the department may consider additional workshops in the future if needed.
This meeting is voluntary and will be open to the public. We will only be discussing amendments that are within the scope of this project as filed with the Office of the Code Reviser. You can few the draft amendments here: Draft Rule Language. Inserted language is underlined, and deleted language is stricken.
If you are interested in participating, please register for the workshop.
You may also submit written comments on the draft rules via email (medical.assistants@doh.wa.gov).
