Promoting equity and quality of care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

About the Collaborative

The WSPC is a volunteer group of public and private organizations, state agencies, health care providers, and community members committed to improving the health of Washington’s pregnant and postpartum people, their infants, and their families.

We work with a variety of partners to implement initiatives that improve perinatal health outcomes. Our work is based on recommendations from the Maternal Mortality Review Panel, best practice guidelines and research, and the needs of Washington families.

WSPC 2023 – 2028 Strategic Plan

The Washington State Perinatal Collaborative released its 2023–2028 Strategic Plan, which outlines a coordinated, human-centered approach to improving perinatal health across the state. The plan focuses on maternal mortality, access to care, and disparities affecting Black, Indigenous, and rural communities.

Drawing on the 2025 Maternal Mortality Review Panel Report and the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant needs assessment, the plan identifies 7 priority areas:

  1. Expanding access to rural obstetric care
  2. Improving perinatal mental health
  3. Strengthening community-based care and supports
  4. Enhancing the quality and safety of care
  5. Providing compassionate care to families affected by substance use disorder
  6. Improving newborn outcomes
  7. Using partnerships to improve outcomes and care access for American Indian and Alaska Native communities

New Resource

Doula Directory and Referral System

Doulas For All developed a doula directory and referral system to connect birthing people across Washington with culturally responsive, community-based doulas who meet their unique care needs. The platform helps families find trusted pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and reproductive support while increasing visibility and referrals for doulas statewide.
