PRAMS Data and Resources

Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS)

PRAMS, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, is the best routine source of information on personal experiences before, during and after pregnancy in Washington. It provides data not available from other sources and is used by researchers, program staff, policymakers, and health care providers to improve outcomes for birthing people and their babies.

How PRAMS Data Are Used

PRAMS data help identify populations at higher risk for health problems, track changes in health status over time, and measure progress toward improving maternal and infant health. State and local governments use this data to plan and evaluate health programs and policies.

Requesting PRAMS Data

Our standard PRAMS analytic file includes PRAMS questionnaire and birth certificate variables. To protect participant confidentiality, we do not release personally identifiable information such as birth certificate numbers, dates of birth, or county of residence.

Data requests may require:

  • A Data Sharing Agreement for the standard data file
  • IRB approval if select personally identifiable information is requested

WA PRAMS data through 2023 is now available. Working with these files requires spreadsheet, database management, or statistical software.
