Ten Criteria and Resources to Meet These Criteria
These criteria guidelines, established by a consortium of experts, reflect best practices in perinatal substance use treatment and care. These resources may also be helpful if you are not a birthing hospital but want to support people with substance use disorder who give birth.
In addition to the resources below, we suggest you utilize the free resources found in the WSHA Perinatal Substance Use Disorder Learning Collaborative online toolkit (member content only) and the Washington State Perinatal Collaborative provider resources.
Resources for Clinicians and Hospitals
- Center of Excellence Hospital Workboard (Excel)
This Workboard can be used to help teams track their implementation progress. The meeting minutes sheet can be copied for each meeting to track progress and action items. There is a slide combining training questions that might be used to help standardize answers and help teams remember the 7 times, 7 ways they trained to these topics. - Clinical Care Checklist (Word)
This checklist can be used as a communication tool among the care team in the hospital to ensure all tasks are completed for patients with SUD prior to discharge. Hospitals should edit this tool to meet their unique needs/resources. - SUD/Eat Sleep Console Staff Binder (Word)

Criterion 3
Have a provider on-site or on-call that can and will initiate and adjust (titrate) medications that treatment opioid use disorder during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum.

If the hospital does not have an on-site/on-call provider, there is a procedure in place to consult with a provider to initiate or adjust medications to treat opioid use disorder during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum when needed.
