What is the Immunization Information System?

The Washington State Immunization Information System, or IIS (formerly the Child Profile Immunization Registry) is a statewide, lifetime immunization registry that keeps track of immunization records for people of all ages. It is a secure, web-based tool for healthcare providers and schools. The Immunization Information System works with the Child Profile Health Promotion System to help parents and providers work together to make good healthcare decisions for kids.

The Washington State Department of Health's Office of Immunization and Child Profile administers the IIS and the Child Profile Health Promotion System which provides health information to Washington parents of children ages birth to six years.

About the Immunization Information System

Clinics using the system can keep track of all immunizations given to patients, see what vaccines a patient needs at each visit, and print out a record of immunizations for patients, run reports, order vaccine, and track eligibility for state-supplied vaccine. Access to the system is available only to providers who sign an Information Sharing Agreement that assures confidentiality, privacy, and security of the Immunization Information System.

History

From 1992-2001, the Snohomish Health District and Public Health--Seattle & King County developed and managed both systems in collaboration with the Department of Health. The system grew from a two-county pilot project to two statewide systems (the Immunization Information System and the Child Profile Health Promotion System) that now serve parents and healthcare providers in every county of the state.

  • 1993 - Child Profile Health Promotion was developed by the Snohomish Health District and Public Health--Seattle & King County.

  • 1995 - Child Profile Health Promotion expanded to Island and Kittitas Counties with the help of the Washington State Department of Health.
  • July 1998 - Child Profile Health Promotion began statewide expansion.
  • January 1, 2002 - The department assumed responsibility for administering the Child Profile Health Promotion system.
