Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Care Steering Committee

The secretary-appointed, 30-member steering committee on EMS and trauma systems consists of representatives from surgeons and physicians, hospitals, prehospital providers, firefighters, local health departments, consumers and other affected groups. The committee also uses nine technical advisory committees (TACs) with more than 150 members from various disciplines. The steering committee provides guidance and direction to the state office in its development of the trauma system.

Responsibilities of the EMS and Trauma Care Steering Committee include:

  • Advising the Department of Health of EMS and trauma care needs throughout the state.
  • Review of regional EMS and trauma care plans and recommend changes to the department before it adopts the plans.
  • Review of proposed department rules for EMS and trauma care.
  • Recommending modifications in rules about EMS and trauma care.
