Grief Support & Resources
There are resources available for those who have lost a loved one to suicide or are supporting a loved one after a suicide attempt. There are many support groups for people who have lost a loved one to suicide in Washington.
The Department of Health does not work directly with the groups mentioned below so please contact them for current information.
Crisis Connections offers CC Cares, peer support and care packages for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. See their website for details.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has an online database of support groups, which might have additional programs, and the WA Chapter can connect you with the Healing Conversations Program for survivors of suicide loss.

- After a Suicide: A Toolkit for Schools: The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention provides schools with tools and information to help implement an appropriate response to the death of a student by suicide.
- Guide for Response to Suicide on College Campuses (PDF): The Higher Education Mental Health Alliance provides tools for an appropriate response to a suicide on a college or university campus.
- A Manager's Guide to Suicide Postvention in the Workplace: Provides 10 action steps for responding to a suicide loss in the workplace.
- Uniting for Suicide Postvention: Provides resources and support for everyone touched by suicide loss, including providers, the community, and the workplace.
- Air Force Resilience Postvention Tools: Intended to help Leaders through reintegration and the aftermath of a crisis.
- Responding to Grief, Trauma, and Distress after a Suicide: The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention offers general guidelines for appropriate response to people affected by a suicide loss.
- Suicide Prevention Competencies for Faith Leaders: Supporting Life Before, During, and After a Suicidal Crisis
- The Faith.Hope.Life. campaign created this resource, which helps equip faith leaders with the capabilities needed to prevent suicide and provide care and comfort for those affected by suicide. Additionally, the Faith Leaders' Guide to Self-Care After a Suicide video highlights the importance of self-care among faith leaders and shares guidance on what faith leaders can do to care for themselves and their own well-being.
