Continuing education (CE) is a requirement for all applied behavior analysis professions. Find information below on rule summaries for your profession, and visit the linked WAC for all details relating to CE requirements.
Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA)
Every two years, licensed behavior analysts must either:
- Maintain a certification from a professional credentialing entity that requires CE as part of certification; or
- Complete a minimum of 32 hours of CE related to the practice of applied behavior analysis.
Visit WAC 246-805-401 to ensure you follow the requirements to complete the proper number of hours relating to each CE topic.
Licensed Assistant Behavior Analyst (LABA)
Every two years, licensed assistant behavior analysts must either:
- Maintain a certification from a professional credentialing entity that requires CE as part of certification; or
- Complete a minimum of 20 hours of CE related to the practice of applied behavior analysis.

Certified Behavior Technician (CBT)
As a condition of renewing their certification, a certified behavior technician must complete continuing education or demonstrate continued competency by either:
- Maintain a certification from a professional credentialing entity; or
- Within 90 days prior to renewing, they must obtain an assessment by an LBA or LABA, or otherwise qualified supervisor, on performance of the following applied behavior analysis tasks:
- Measurement;
- Assessment;
- Skill acquisition;
- Behavior reduction;
- Documentation and reporting; and
- Professional conduct and scope of practice.

Health Equity Continuing Education
- What is the new requirement?

Starting in your first full continuing education (CE) reporting cycle after January 1, 2024, you must complete a minimum of two hours of CE training in health equity per reporting period. See Part 15 of chapter 246-12 WAC.

- When must I complete the training by?

After January 1, 2024, you will have one full reporting period to do the health equity CE training. See the chart below for CE requirements timing examples:

No. The requirement does not change the total number of CE hours. The health equity CE training requirement will be included in the existing 24 hours required per WAC 246-830-475.
