Can birthing centers or community health clinics become a Center of Excellence for Perinatal Substance Use?
No, the Centers of Excellence program is only available for birthing hospitals. Birth centers and community health clinics are not yet eligible.
What if I'm not a hospital, but still want to learn how to support people with a substance use disorder who give birth?
We have many criteria resources available on our certification page. You can also email us at centersofexcellence@doh.wa.gov and we will be happy to offer any support and guidance.
How does a hospital apply to become a Center of Excellence for Perinatal Substance Use?
The certification page includes instructions on how to apply.
Once you have reviewed the application questions and criteria, you can submit an online application. We will review the application and send you our decision in 1-3 weeks.
If you meet all the criteria, we will mail you the certificate and window decal, and email you a file with a Centers of Excellence graphic, a sample press release, and example social media materials. We will also promote your hospital's status on our website, and on social media as we are able.
If you do not meet all of the criteria, we will reach out and offer support and resources to help your hospital meet the minimum requirements.
Why should a hospital become a Center of Excellence for Perinatal Substance Use?
