ESSB 5271

On June 6, 2024, ESSB 5271 went into effect (PDF) which allows the Department of Health to impose a limited stop service enforcement action in immediate jeopardy situations. Immediate jeopardy is a situation in which the facility’s noncompliance with one or more statutory or regulatory requirements has placed the health and safety of patients in its care at risk for serious injury, harm, impairment, or death.

Additionally, this law allows the department to regulate unlicensed practice by issuing cease and desist orders, injunctions, and a maximum civil fine of $5,000 per day.
