Newborn Screening Program Annual Reports

2018-2022 Annual Summary

The following tables provide a summary of Newborn Screening Program data from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022. This includes an overview of the number of initial and follow up specimens submitted to the Newborn Screening laboratory, detailed specimen quality metrics, and the number of infants detected through newborn screening during that timeframe.

Detailed annual reports for 2018 to present are in progress. Quarterly reports, which include submitter-specific compliance and quality data, will be available soon through Washington's Newborn Screening Secure Remote Viewer (SRV). Past Annual Reports

These annual reports are presented in accordance with Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 70.83.080 and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 246-650-040, which requires the Department of Health to produce an annual newborn screening report for the State Board of Health and the general public. The annual reports include metrics on specimen collection and transit performance, specimen quality indicators and performance, parent notification, newborn screening disorders detected, and newborn screening follow-up activities.

Annual Board of Health Report

The Board of Health report is compiled in accordance with Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 246-650-040 which requires an annual report to the State Board of Health detailing newborn screening follow-up procedures and annual data on infants screened, infants detected, and the cost of screening. Starting in 2015, the Annual Board of Health Report has been combined with the Newborn Screening Program Annual Report.
