Work We are Doing With Communities

Together with our community, local, state, and federal partners, our team works directly with communities across Washington who are impacted by PFAS in drinking water, home-raised livestock, and gardens.  

Examples of work we have done with impacted communities include: 

East Selah (Yakima Training Center Area)

  • Participating in open house meetings and helping facilitate community-centered listening sessions.  
  • Testing home-raised livestock products, like meat and eggs, for PFAS and providing individualized health consultations based on results.  
  • Involving community members in developing health education materials.  
  • Providing consultation and support to public drinking water systems.  
  • Supporting Yakima Health District’s Point of Use Water Filter program.  

West Plains (Airway Heights/Spokane Area) 

  • Participating in open house meetings and helping facilitate community-centered listening sessions.  
  • Testing home-raised livestock products, like meat and eggs, for PFAS and providing individualized health consultations based on results.  
  • Participating in community-led events, including “Talk to the Expert” panels.  
  • Looking into and responding to community members’ cancer concerns.  
  • Involving community members in developing health education materials.  
  • Supporting community members with a Point of Use Water Filter program run by DOH’s Office of Drinking Water.  

Bailer Hill Area Site (San Juan Island)  

  • Participating in and helping facilitate community meetings.  
  • Participating in community-led events, including “Talk to the Expert” panels.  
  • Providing consultation and support to public drinking water systems.
