Welcome to the Washington State Department of Health's Immunization data visualization resources. This page is your guide to school immunization data in the state for school years 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019. For access to older school immunization data, please visit our school immunization reports page.
Most schools and school districts are represented in the data. However, schools and school districts with less than 10 students for the 2018-2019 school year have been suppressed from public data for privacy reasons.
Schools in the state of Washington are required to report their students' immunization status by November 1st of each school year. The Department of Health collects this data and makes it available to the public. The Department now provides the data through visualization software to make it easier to use and understand.
We recommend reading important definitions below before viewing the dashboards. We also recommend reading the Technical Notes document below for background information about the data.
View the Data
Immunization reporting by "status"
For kindergarten and 6th grade the measures include:
Complete: A count of students with a signed Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) form showing they have all required vaccinations for their grade level or showing a proof of immunity.
Exempt: The number of students with a signed Certificate of Exemption (COE) form. Note: each student is counted only once regardless of how many exemptions they may have on file.
Conditional: the number of students who have a signed CIS form and are making satisfactory progress toward full immunization by starting or continuing a schedule of immunizations and are within the recommended interval for the next dose.
Out of Compliance: The number of students who are not complete/immune, not exempt, or not in conditional status (as defined above).
For K-12, the status of "Conditional" and "Out of Compliance" do not apply.
Immunization reporting by "exemption"
Personal/Philosophical: a count of students with a Certificate of Exemption form signed by a parent of legal guardian stating the required immunization is against their personal or philosophical beliefs.
Medical: a count of students with a Certificate of Exemption form signed by a health care professional stating the child has a medical contraindication to a certain vaccine or vaccines.
Religious: a count of students with a Certificate of Exemption form signed by a child's parent or legal guardian stating that the family's religious beliefs oppose the required immunization.
Religious Membership: a count of students with a Certificate of Exemption form affirming membership in a church or religion that does not allow treatment by a health care practitioner.
Immunization reporting by "vaccine"
For Kindergarten and 6th grade, the measures count the percentage of students "incomplete," meaning that they are conditional, out of compliance, or exempt for a vaccine series. The K-12 measures count the percentage of students "exempt" from a vaccine.
Use and Interpretation of Data
The dashboards have limits on their appropriate ues and interpretation for various reasons. To see an explanation of some of these limitations, please see Technical Data Notes (PDF).
