Rules in Progress

The rules writing process is open to the public. The public is welcome to take part in helping us write rules. Rules are also known as regulations, Washington Administrative Code, or WAC. The rule-making process includes public notices and workshops, and usually a public hearing before a rule becomes final.

Current rules in progress

As of April 25, 2025, the emergency rule extending alternative timelines has been extended through July 31, 2025.

On May 17, 2025, HB5672 was signed into law, allowing the Department of Health, in collaboration with the State Auditor’s Office, to extend the certification timeline for long-term care workers while the state audit is being conducted.

On April 7, 2025, HB1142 was signed into law, standardizing basic training and clarifying the role of long-term care workers providing in-home care.
