Sex Offender Treatment Provider Advisory Committee

The secretary of the Department of Health appoints all members for three-year terms. Members must live in Washington.

Committee Information

We're currently recruiting members for a new advisory committee. If you're interested in applying for an appointment to the SOTP Advisory Committee, you may download the application (PDF). The deadline for submitting your application is September 25, 2020. After that time, the department will review applications and set up interviews. Composition

The recruitment for advisory committee members, as set by law (PDF) and outlined in Section 5 of Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6641, is for:

  • One (1) superior court judge;
  • Three (3) certified SOTPs with a minimum of five years experience treating sex offenders;
  • One (1) mental health practitioner with experience treating victims of sexual assault;
  • One (1) defense attorney with experience representing persons charged with sex offenses; and
  • One (1) representative of the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys.

The advisory committee shall be a permanent body established to advise the Secretary of Health (secretary) concerning the implementation of this law, administration of the profession, and to address issues pertaining to maintaining a healthy workforce of certified sex offender treatment providers to meet the needs of the state of Washington.

The members of the advisory committee shall serve staggered six-year terms, to be set by the secretary. No person other than the members representing the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), children, youth, and families (DCYF), and corrections (DOC) may serve more than two consecutive terms.
