Sex Offender Treatment Provider Advisory Committee

Committee Information

The Washington State Department of Health is seeking applicants to serve on the Sex Offender Treatment Provider (SOTP) Advisory Committee. This committee plays a vital role in advising the Secretary of Health on the implementation of laws, administration of the profession, and workforce needs for certified sex offender treatment providers across the state.

Current Vacancies

The committee is currently accepting applications for the following positions:

  • One mental health practitioner with experience treating victims of sexual assault
  • One superior court judge.

Committee Composition

The advisory committee consists of  members: representing diverse expertise and agencies:

  • Judiciary: One superior court judge
  • Treatment Providers: Three certified sex offender treatment providers (SOTPs) with at least five years experience treating sex offenders
  • Mental Health: One practitioner experienced in treating victims of sexual assault
  • Legal Defense: One defense attorney with experience representing individuals charged with sex offenses
  • Prosecution: One representative from the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys.
  • Government Agencies: 
    • One designee from the Department of Social and Health Services
    • One designee from the Department of Corrections
    • One designee from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families

The advisory committee advises the Secretary of Health on the implementation of laws, administration of the profession, and issues related to maintaining a workforce of certified sex offender treatment providers to meet the needs of Washington state.

Term Length and Eligibility

Committee members serve six-year terms. Members representing the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), and Department of Corrections (DOC) may serve beyond two consecutive terms, while all other members are limited to two consecutive terms.
