The Midwifery Advisory Committee's mandate is to protect the public's health and safety, and to promote the welfare of the state by regulating the competency and quality of professional healthcare providers under its jurisdiction. The committee accomplishes this through a variety of activities working with the Department of Health, Health Systems Quality Assurance.

Description
The Midwifery Advisory Committee is composed of on physician who is a practicing obstetrician; one practicing physician; one licensed certified nurse midwife; three licensed midwives; and one public member, who has no financial interest in the rendering of health services. The committee may seek other consultants as appropriate, including persons trained in childbirth education and perinatology or neonatology.
Reimbursement and Compensation
Reasonable allowances will be provided to cover reasonable and necessary subsistence and lodging expenses while engaged on official business.
Advice and Recommendations
The Midwifery Advisory Committee advises and makes recommendations to the secretary on issues including, but not limited to, continuing education, mandatory reexamination, and peer review.
The committee meets about three times a year. Historically, meetings have been scheduled in June, September, and December during business hours.
