Rules
- WAC 246-101 requires laboratories (including those who use Point of Care Machines) to report all blood lead test results to the Washington State Department of Health.
- All elevated blood lead levels (5 µg/dL or higher in youths and adults) must be reported within two days.
- All other test results must be reported within one month.
- CDC Updates Childhood Blood Lead Level Reference Value (PDF) - CDC's recommendation doesn't change the current guidelines for Washington.
Reporting
- We encourage Electronic Lab Reporting (ELR) through PHRED HL7 messaging.
- If your laboratory or clinic is not set up for HL7 messaging, we accept test results using our Blood Lead Test Report Form (Excel).
- Please refer to the Blood Lead Reporting Instructions (PDF) for additional help.
