- Assisting with Telemedicine Visits
The governor signed into law on April 14, 2021 House Bill 1378, which allows a medical assistant who is assisting with a telemedicine visit to be supervised by a health care practitioner through interactive audio and video telemedicine technology. This new law allows telemedicine supervision only in situations where a provider is engaging in a telemedicine visit with a patient. During the provider/patient telemedicine visit, the provider may also supervise the medical assistant who is assisting with the visit via audio and video telemedicine technology. The law does not allow for telemedicine supervision outside of the provider/patient telemedicine visit. - Medical assistant medication reconstitution
The Department of Health has provided an Interpretive Statement regarding the reconstitution of medications by medical assistants-certified (MA-C) and medical assistants-registered (MA-R). This interpretive statement provides a determination that an MA-C or MA-R may reconstitute medications as part of medication administration. What this means is that if the MA-C or MA-R is administering a medication, and that medication requires reconstitution prior to administration, a properly trained and delegated medical assistant can reconstitute the medication prior to administration, per manufacturer's directions. - Take the Washington Health Workforce Survey.
