Boards, Commissions and Advisory Committees
Boards, commissions and advisory committees give citizens a voice in their government. They provide a means to influence decisions that shape the quality of life for state residents. Participating on a board, commission or committee is one of the most effective steps citizens can take to become an active voice in their government.
The Washington State Department of Health has 28 boards, commissions and advisory committees. The governor or the secretary of health appoint members. Appointees advise the governor, the legislature, and the secretary of health. Boards, commissions or advisory committees may be responsible for regulating the competency and quality of professional healthcare providers under their jurisdiction. Protecting public health and safety is a top priority of the governor and the secretary of health. Boards accomplish this through a variety of activities in collaboration with the Department of Health, Health Systems Quality Assurance division.
