- Health Equity Continuing Education - The Department of Health (DOH) has implemented Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5229 (chapter 276, laws 2021) (PDF). ESSB 5229 requires that health care professionals credentialed under Title 18 RCW, and subject to continuing education requirements, complete health equity continuing education training. This training must be taken at least once every four years.

- Telemedicine - During the 2021 Legislative Session, the legislature passed Substitute Senate Bill 5423. This bill allows Washington state Allopathic Physicians (MDs) and Osteopathic Physicians (DOs) to consult with practitioners licensed in another state, via telemedicine, in order to diagnose and treat a WA provider's established patient. - Opioid prescribing Clarification Interpretive Statement - The Department of Health filed an Interpretive Statement titled Clarification of Opioid Prescribing Rules, with the Office of the Code Reviser on September 20, 2019, as WSR 19-20-063 (PDF). This Interpretive Statement is a joint communication from the State Health Officer, the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Dental Quality Assurance Commission, Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission, Podiatric Medical Board, and the Washington Medical Commission. The purpose of the joint communication is to help practitioners better understand the existing opioid prescribing rules.
- Washington Health Workforce Survey – renewal requirement - RCW 18.57.050(2) requires the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery to collect information pertaining to the current professional practice of osteopathic physicians at the time of license renewal. It requires osteopathic physicians to provide the requested information.
- Failure to complete the survey may delay your renewal. More information on the survey's goals, how we'll use the data and access to the survey is on the Washington Health Workforce Survey webpage.
- Breast density notification - The governor approved legislation on March 21, 2018, that became effective January 1, 2019, requiring healthcare facilities to share breast density classification information with mammography patients.
