Speech-Language Pathology Assistant - Rules in Progress

Rules in Progress

The rules writing process is open to the public. These rules are created through a public process involving open public meetings and hearings. Each of these rules is in various stages of rule writing.

You are always welcome to take part in helping the board of Speech and Pathology Assistants write rules. Rules are also known as regulations, Washington Administrative Code, or WAC.

The rule-making process includes public notices and workshops, and usually a public hearing before a rule becomes final.

The Board of Hearing and Speech filed on January 23, 2023, a CR-101, Preproposal for hearing and speech health equity continuing education, WSR # 23-04-022 (PDF). The board is considering amendments to WAC 246-828-510 (continuing education) and creating new sections to chapter 246-828 WAC to adopt the health equity continuing education (CE) model rules, WAC 246-12-800 through 246-12-830, and to consider whether additional CE hours and course topics should be included. Interested parties may send comments regarding the proposed rule language by email to the program manager, by April 14, 2023.

The Department of Health has filed a CR-103, permanent rule (PDF), for several professions. The adopted changes will more closely align revenue with expenses of each profession, while enabling reserves to be maintained should unanticipated events occur. The amended fee rules also update terms and adjust citations to create consistency among the healthcare professions. The new amounts will apply to credentials that are due on or after June 1, 2023.
