State Emergency Medical Reserve Corps

Washington’s State Emergency Medical Reserve Corps (SEMRC) brings together volunteers who want to help during emergencies and natural disasters in Washington state. We created a network of trained licensed volunteers who can support communities across the state when they're needed most. Whether it's helping at a vaccination clinic or responding to a public health crisis, SEMRC volunteers play a vital role in keeping our communities safe and healthy.

How Does SEMRC Help Our Community?

Imagine if there's a huge snowstorm, and lots of people need medical help at once. Our local clinics might get overwhelmed. That's when SEMRC steps in! Here's how it works:

  1. Spotting the Need: Local health centers realize they need more hands to help.
  2. Asking for Backup: They reach out to the Washington State Department of Health to request SEMRC volunteers.
  3. Team Planning: SEMRC coordinators chat with the local folks to figure out exactly what's needed.
  4. Rallying the Volunteers: SEMRC sends out a call to their volunteers — people who are ready and eager to help.
  5. Jumping into Action: Volunteers arrive and work with local staff, providing care, giving vaccines, or helping in any way they can.
  6. Mission Accomplished: Once things calm down, the volunteers head home, and everyone takes time to see what went well and how to do better next time.
