Newborn Screening

The Newborn Screening office tests infants born in Washington State for treatable disorders, as determined by the State Board of Health, that may not otherwise be detected before developmental disability or death occurs. We provide population based laboratory screening of all infants born in the state in conjunction with follow-up services, specialized diagnosis and treatment systems.

Public Health Microbiology

The Public Health Microbiology office performs a wide variety of diagnostic and surveillance testing in support of the Department of Health’s mission. Activities include isolation, identification, drug sensitivity determination, and/or confirmation of etiological agents of public health and epidemiological concern. Advanced molecular methods are used to guide outbreak investigations and inform public health action.
