Under state law, each profession must be self-supporting through the fees that licensees pay. The department sets or changes fees through a formal rule-making process that includes opportunities for the public to give input. The number of licensees in a profession and the costs to administer the profession affects fees. For more information on the process and how the department determines fees, see the Frequently Asked Questions webpage.

Fee changes for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants adopted

The department has adopted the following changes to the licensing and renewal fees (PDF) for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants:

  • Effective February 1, 2019 – an increase in licensing and renewal fees for state license because current fees are not generating sufficient revenue to keep the program self-supporting as required in the law (RCW 43.70.250).
