Health Insurance

The Affordable Care Act requires most Americans to obtain health insurance coverage, as does the Early Intervention Program.

Help with paying for insurance

EIP helps clients enroll in health insurance and pays the insurance cost, or premium. EIP may be able to pay for the following types of insurance.

Employer Sponsored Health Insurance

Employer insurance programs insure the majority of workers.

Qualified Health Plans

If insurance through an employer is not an option for you, you can enroll in a qualified health plan through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. You must sign up during Open Enrollment, unless you have had a life event that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment.

The Health Benefit Exchange has opened up a Special Enrollment Period through April 8, 2020. The next open enrollment period will be November 1, 2020 through December 15, 2020, for coverage to begin January 1, 2021.

Medicare D Prescription Drug Plans

If you are Medicare eligible, you must enroll in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan.

EIP no longer pays for COBRA premiums for clients starting a COBRA plan.

The Washington State Health Insurance Pool (WSHIP) is not enrolling new clients.
