The Department of Health's Commute Trip Reduction program helps to reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption and auto emissions by encouraging use of carpools, vanpools, public transit, bicycling and walking by incentivizing employees in the following ways:
- Monetary incentives to Carpool, Vanpool, Bike, Bus, or Walk;
- Reserved car/vanpool parking closest to our Tumwater buildings;
- Guaranteed free rides home for car/vanpoolers when something unexpected makes them miss their regular ride;
- Free bus rides for employees whose official work station is in Thurston, Mason, or Grays Harbor counties with the State Agency Rider (STAR) Pass; and
- Secure bicycle storage and repair station onsite in Tumwater.
