COVID-19 and Telehealth
Any psychologist providing services to a client located in Washington state must have either a temporary practice permit or a full license issued by Washington state (for any reason, any length of time, etc.). No exceptions!
The temporary permit has no fee, allows up to 90 calendar (not consecutive) days of psychological services, including telepsychology. You may apply online for a temporary permit.
Telehealth is allowed under the Washington state psychologist license. Review the telepsychology guidelines for further information.
- PSYPACT – The 2022 legislative session passed SHB 1286 which allowed Washington to join PSYPACT. PSYPACT is an interstate psychology compact that allows qualified psychologists from participating states to provide telehealth services and temporary in-person services to residents of other participating states. The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) Commission has published proposed rules for consideration and comment. The proposed rules are on PSYPACT's website.
These proposed rules are open for a period of 60 days for public comment for those stakeholders interested in providing such comment. The deadline for submission of written comments is October 3, 2023.
Written comments can be submitted via the PSYPACT website and submitted to the PSYPACT Commission no later than 5 p.m. EST on October 3, 2023.
A public hearing will be conducted as part of the PSYPACT Commission’s Annual Meeting via Zoom on November 16, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. EST. Interested parties may participate and notification will be posted to the PSYPACT website 30 days prior to the meeting with call-in information provided. - Information for providers whose credentials have been affected by a drug conviction.
- Beginning January 1, 2021, health care professionals (excluding physicians) who are offering telemedicine services to patients, are required to complete telemedicine training.
