Credentialing Initial Application Licensing, Certification and Registration
The Credentialing Section ensures all applicants meet established professional qualifications and requirements in accordance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) before a credential is issued. This section plays a critical role in maintaining the state's rapidly expanding healthcare delivery system. The Credentialing Section protects the public by issuing credentials to safe and qualified providers and facilities by:
- Conducting state and national background checks
- Assuring applicants meet all educational, clinical and profession-specific requirements
- Assessing each application for military training and experience
- Coordinating with state agencies, boards and commissions and secretary-regulated programs
- Providing technical assistance to the public and applicants; and
- Developing credentialing data systems and processes for new healthcare professions as mandated by law.
February Credentialing Freeze: All licensing and credentialing systems for health professionals and facilities will be unavailable on Friday, February 14 from 5 p.m. until the morning of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to complete system upgrades. Please complete your applications and renewals now to avoid delays.
