Important Update for WIC Participants

Upcoming Changes to Public Charge Rule

DOH is monitoring a new federal public charge rule that takes effect September 18, 2026. It is not yet clear whether WIC will be considered in some immigration decisions. The rule does not clearly explain which programs might count, though it may allow immigration officials to consider some public benefits, including WIC, in certain green card or visa decisions.

Bottom line: WIC is still here for eligible families. This rule does not change WIC eligibility or how local agencies determine eligibility.

WIC benefits are separate from Apple Health (Medicaid) and SNAP

Beginning Oct. 1, 2026, federal changes may affect Apple Health eligibility and SNAP (food benefits). Even if your Apple Health coverage or SNAP benefits change, you may still qualify for WIC.

Meet with WIC staff remotely (over-the-phone) or in-person at a WIC clinic.
Your first appointment will take about 30-45 minutes, and you'll get your food benefits that day!
